WHAT IS A CHILLER?
Chiller means water cooler. Chiller is a general name for gas type water cooling systems. In its most general form, two types of production are carried out as “air-cooled chiller” and “water-cooled chiller”.
AIR-COOLED CHILLER
These systems operate as the refrigerant inside the chiller gains energy through the evaporator and condenser, and then discharge on air-cooled batteries. The areas where Air Cooled Chiller devices will be installed must be open to fresh air flow continuously, and the distance between the devices should be calculated by adhering to the manufacturer’s values if multiple devices are to be installed. Air-cooled chiller devices are generally suitable for places where water consumption needs to be minimized or for customer portfolios who prefer the package type device option.
WATER-COOLED CHILLER
Unlike air-cooled chillers, water-cooled chiller devices are units that cool the hot gas in the condenser circuit with water. In this way, device dimensions are minimized (65% smaller volume compared to the chiller device of similar capacity), while at the same time, they have lower electricity consumption and higher performance values due to the increase in compressor operating performance. In these devices, it is essential to have a continuous water supply for the supply of cooling water to be circulated in the condenser. This supply can be in the form of stream, sea, cooling tower or free cooling devices. Water-cooled chillers are generally used for places where installation space is limited, energy costs are significant but water costs are low. Since the device has the ability to operate indoors, it is usually one of the most ideal solutions in cases where the closest positioning to the area to be cooled is desired. Air-conditioning of marine vehicles is done with these devices.
AREAS OF USE
Chiller devices are used in almost all processes where cooling water is needed. Its areas of application include industries such as HVAC (air-conditioning systems) in the first place as well as plastic, metal, food industry, cold storage, MRI devices, laser processing devices, welding lines, yarn moistening in textile industry, etc. In warm countries, it is used extensively in ready-mixed concrete plants for cooling the concrete water.
